Safe Driving is the 23rd episode in Season 4 of Beavis and Butt-head. It is the overall 84th episode.

Plot

The duo are at school waiting in line for Drivers ED. Then when Coach Buzzcut comes in he tells the students that they're going to watch a video that contains real gruesome car crashes which excites Beavis and Butt-head.

In the old 1950's era made video, two teenagers that look like Beavis and Butt-Head, called Vinnie and Frankie, get in a car crash which amuses Beavis and Butt-Head, and inspires the duo to be like the irresponsible and reckless drivers, who they think are "cool". Then the scene goes to Beavis, Butt-Head, and Coach Buzzcut in a car about to go for a test drive but they get hit by a truck and blood splashes on the screen.

The duo, in the end (mainly Butt-head), however, continue to laugh, signifying that they are still alive.

Transcript

[We open with the students of Highland High School entering a Driver's Education class, led by Coach Buzzcut. Among the students are Beavis and Butt-Head.] Butt-Head: Hey, Beavis. It's like, I already know how to drive, so like, I don't really need to take this class. Beavis: Yeah, me too. I've driven before. Butt-Head: No, you haven't, Beavis. You drove bumper cars that one time, and you got stuck in the corner. Everyone was kicking your ass, even that little girl! [He laughs.] Beavis: Shut up, Butt-Head! I drove a real car once! You weren't there, it was somewhere else. It was cool. [He starts making loud, obnoxious noises, imitating a car's engine.] Coach Buzzcut: Permission slips and birth certificates! Let's see 'em! MOVE IT! MOVE IT! [Butt-Head hands his birth certificate and permission slip, with a forged signature from "Mrs. Butt-Head".] What are you staring at, BUTT-HEAD?! [Beavis then hands two pieces of paper that read "BIRF CURTIFIKIT, BEAVIS" and "PURMISHON SLIP, OK".] Waiting for a playful pat on the butt?! MOVE IT!!! Butt-Head: This is gonna be cool! [He and Beavis enter the classroom. Once inside, he and Beavis are imitating driving cars with their desks, and Butt-Head shoves his desk into Beavis, simulating a car crash.] Beavis: OW! Cut it out, butthole! Coach Buzzcut: [He enters the classroom, slamming the door.] SHUT THE HELL UP!! Now, welcome to Driver's Ed. I'm required to tell you that the film we are about to see contains actual footage of gruesome car crashes. Butt-Head: YES!! Beavis: YEAH!!! YEAH!!! MULTIPLE CAR PILE-UPS!!! Butt-Head: Car crashes rule! Coach Buzzcut: It's nothing I haven't seen, but it may be too much for some you delicate types. [He scowls at one particular student upon that remark.] Now, no one's going to think you're a pantywaist if you can't take it, but if you can't, I SUGGEST YOU GET YOUR PATHETIC, WEAK-WILLED LITTLE BUTT OUT OF HERE NOW!!! YOU HAVE FIVE SECONDS!!! [That particular student gets up and leaves with his head hanging low. Beavis and Butt-Head promptly start laughing at him.] Butt-Head: That guy's a wuss! Beavis: Yeah! He's a pantywuss! Coach Buzzcut: SHUT UP!!! LIGHTS! [One student shuts the lights off while Buzzcut starts the film projector.] [As the film begins to play, we see a shot of someone sliding out of control into another driver, as the screen gets splashed with blood. A title card zooms in, reading "Bloody Mess Behind the Wheel".] Beavis: This movie's old. Butt-Head: Yeah, this is from back when people were stupid. Coach Buzzcut: QUIET!!! Narrator: Most young people are conscientious citizens who drive defensively and obey all the applicable traffic laws. [We see a shot of a driver giving a hand signal to a police officer while making a turn.] Butt-Head: Look, he's flipping him off! Beavis: Yeah! Coach Buzzcut: SHUT UP!!! Narrator: But there's always going to be one or two bad apples in the bunch. [The scene changes to two teenagers smoking cigarettes, which catches Beavis and Butt-Head's attention.] Butt-Head: Those guys are cool! Beavis: Yeah! Narrator: These two boys, let's call them "Finny" and "Franky", think they're cool. All their friends think they're cool. But unsafe driving is never cool! Finny: Let's cruise, Franky! Franky: Hey, cool! [The two boys get in their car and drive off in a very reckless way, and start laughing very similarly like Beavis and Butt-Head.] Butt-Head: Cool! [As the video goes on, the boys are seen driving very fast down a road, and almost run over a boy scout, which excites Beavis.] Beavis: FASTER!!! FASTER!!! YEAH, YEAH!!! [They barely miss the boy scout, and continue laughing. All the while, Beavis and Butt-Head are laughing exactly the same way.] Finny: Hang a Louie, Franky! Butt-Head: [He laughs.] He said "loogie"! Beavis: Yeah, and he said "hang", too! [They both laugh upon Beavis saying "hang".] Finny: Louie, Franky! Louie! Franky: Wait, first I gotta signal! Finny: Don't be a square, Franky! Just hang it! Franky: Alright, wisenheimer! [Franky makes the turn without signaling, and slam into an oncoming semi-truck. The screen then gets splashed with blood as they collide with the truck, frightening all the students watching, except Beavis and Butt-Head.] Butt-Head: [Laughing at what has happened.] Splat! Beavis: Yeah! Blap! [The scene changes to a video titled "ACTUAL HIGHWAY PATROL FOOTAGE". We see the aftermath of the deadly crash, as a highway patrolman opens the door of the boys' wrecked car. Off-screen, the students scream in horror when they see their bodies splatter out of the car.] Butt-Head: WHOA!! His brain fell out! Beavis: "And this your brain. This is your brain on the street. Any questions?" Butt-Head: That was cool! [Later, we find Beavis, Butt-Head, and Coach Buzzcut in a training car for the class.] Coach Buzzcut: Alright, Butt-Head, now pay attention. Just release the brake, and press gently on the accelerator. Beavis: Yeah, dumbass! Drive! Coach Buzzcut: Butt-Head! What is your problem?! Apply pressure to the accelerator! DO IT, NOW!!! [Butt-Head laughs as he slams his foot on the accelerator, sending the car flying out of control, on to the street, and into the path of an oncoming semi-truck. They all scream in terror as they collide with the truck, while the screen gets splashed with blood, just like in the video they just watched!]

Trivia

• At the end of this episode it is similar to the ending in the video they watched.
• Beavis, Butt-Head, and Coach Buzzcut had to of lived at the end they were probably just injured.
• It's odd how Butt-head's Birth Certificate didn't have the month or date he was born just the year.
• In the beginning of the episode,when Beavis and Butt-Head show Coach Buzzcut their birth certificates, it's revealed that Butt-Head was born in 1978. However it doesn't list a specific date. Beavis' certificate, however, doesn't even show the year. This would mean that Butt-Head is 39 years old as of 2017, but 22 in actual realistic years.
• This is one of the few episodes where Coach Buzzcut screams in fear.
• The two characters in the drivers education film, are actually early sketches of Beavis and Butthead.
• Beavis makes a reference to the infamous "Brain on Drugs" ad from the 80's when the class is shown the violent car crash film ("This is your brain, this is your brain on the street! Any questions?")
